Upcycled Vintage Paintings
I am automatically drawn to blues (sea glass blue is probably my favorite!) and this vintage inspired, "worn in" look is a great option for adding a vintage touch to a home on a budget.
This rug must have sold out right when I was editing this blog post BUT not to fear, I've linked to many other cute, pink, budget friendly rugs.
I really loved this one and it was so hard not to buy it! We definitely didn't want Marble to ruin it in any way so we decided against this beauty.
This white and grey shag rug is such an easy classic. It has that mud cloth kinda vibe but is still modern and can be easily placed in several different styled homes. Plus - SHAG. I mean, hello!
This large, woven jute rug is actually the one we've picked for our living room! It came this weekend and we are obsessed with how it turned out. Comfy, durable and light to open our space! Plus, Marble won't easily damage it with scratches, potty stains or shedding.
This navy blue and multi-colored rug from Joss & Main is such a great deal! Less than $200 for a cute, vintage style area rug? Yes, please.
Daniel and I had been shopping for an area rug for our living room for a little over a month. I looked at Overstock and Joss & Main for days, searching high and low for something that would be HUGE, cheap and durable for everyday wear and tear - plus, Marble friendly. There were so many cute, budget friendly area rugs that I wanted for our place! I began pinning left and right all the cute area rugs and sending links to Daniel to get his opinion. I was really set on a lighter rug (preferably a true vintage one), but everything I fell in love with just seemed like a terrible idea for our household. I'm kinda clumsy and Marble can't always be trusted. I've compiled some favorite "neutrals" to share with you, however, there are thousands to check out if your in the market for a budget friendly area rug that's just your style!
PS: Did you guess which one we chose?
See a glimpse of our first home together in this mini apartment tour! Loads of images with descriptions along with a YouTube video from my channel with a video tour, too! It definitely was not everything I wanted it to be decor-wise, however, I figured it was a good idea to document this first home with my husband :)
If you’ve been following me on my YouTube channel or Instagram, you already know that Daniel and I are moving to a new apartment! The new place is literally down the street from our current apartment and I am happy to say we will still be living in the same neighborhood. We have the keys to our new place and we’ve moved over a few fun things but really, the majority of our stuff is still at the loft (aka, our old place). We have to move quite a bit of large furniture up the stairs to our new unit – which we plan on doing this weekend. It’s a really beautiful flat with light gray walls and dark hard floors throughout. There are beautiful white baseboards in every room. The faux-marble kitchen countertops bighten up the space with white upper and lower cabinets. The windows are huge and really give the entire apartment an airy, lovely feel. It’s an older unit so I am sure there might be some things that pop up we might be bothered by, but the age of the apartment and the creak in the floors is so charming. I JUST CAN’T WAIT TO SHOW YOU! I will film a much longer, in depth apartment tour of our new place, so hang tight!!! In the meantime, click the button below to check out the video and enjoy the images and descriptions in this post!
Here's our little fireplace. This is where I have sat to film all of my "sit down" youtube videos. Along with my trusty wooden ladder! I have tweaked this area with decor soooo many times but I really loved having all these vintage elements as the main focus in our living room. The little table is from World Market, and the books are gifts but everything else is vintage! Aside from our wedding photo in the Target frame.
Our couch is a vintage cane couch that we reupholstered with a DIY'd RIT dyed painters drop cloth fabric (woof! mouthful). The pillows are just from around our home. The golden chair has been with my husband for years! I do love the color. We're hoping to replace our IKEA coffee table asap and we want to invest in a large area rug for our new space. The art on our wall is by PKMathais Art and they just really make me happy.
This is pretty much where Daniel lives - Ha! He loves to cook and is so amazingly good at it. Our poor Christmas tree is dying to get out of our space. Whoops. You can see Marble's raccoon under the IKEA chair and her little food & water bowls too. We've loved the kitchen being open because we can chat while he cooks.
Again, so messy!! PS - that bar cart was only $12 at a thrift store! Before I stacked our Christmas decor here and before I shipped this verismo to a babe in California, this was a simple, cute little bar cart area that I really loved. That banner on the light switche is looking for a better home in our space. The dried flowers are from Daniel.
This is technically our "dining room". We've never owned a dining room set so it's just been kind of a "catch all" space. This chair is leftover from the couch set we tried to sell and we will be getting rid of it. The black and white print was an idea I got from Alli Cherry on YouTube and only cost $7 for the print! The piece sign is handmade by the Wrecking Ball Collective (and lights up!). The bike is my brother's and the longboard is Daniel's. He's a babe when he rides it. We'll probably use this shelf for our TV. I'd love to replace the silver handles for gold or brass!
Those doors are to our laundry room. The frame on the staircase is from IKEA and I put a vintage bag in it because I thought it was so beautiful. The bag was only $10! The map is a gift to my husband. It has all the breweries in Europe on it. I have more art on our stairs, but wasn't able to photograph it due to the lighting.
These stairs catch so many shoes and random things that I need to take upstairs...ha! The tiny guitar was a gift to my husband and the large fabric piece hanging on the right wall is a huge runner that I found at a thrift store. The curtains need a little adjusting but they are from the thrift store as well.
One week from today (which is the day after Dan's bday!!!), Daniel and I are picking up keys to our new apartment! I am so excited – we have been in our current apartment for two years now and while I still LOVE it (I mean, it’s our first “home” together) I’m so ready for a change. Our place now is a loft with the bedroom and bathroom upstairs. It’s been awesome but the circulation of the AC and heat has been super crappy and I’m honestly ready for doors. Ha! While we do get our keys next week, our current lease isn’t up unti February 28th. SO, we will have a few weeks to move :) which I’m honestly looking forward to. The best part – it’s less than a quarter mile from our current apartment! I can’t wait to fill the hardwood floored, two bedroom, large windowed, flat and show you how we decorate. I’m hoping to really develop my actual home style in this new space. So exciting!!!
These little compilations I whipped up are mainly color and style inspiration for me to consider. I’m all over the place when it comes to style (wardrobe & home décor) so I just let things that catch my eye speak to me. We’ll see if it changes!
I was really drawn to the bright green rug (which is a steal btw) for our living area or bedroom. I've been really drawn to peaches and light pinks lately (which probably has to do with the trends shoving them in my face - but hey, I hear this years pantone is greenery so the jungalow peeps can rejoice!). I'm not sure if I'll really instill these light, feminine colors into our home (maybe the second bedroom turned YouTube office?!) but I am inspired by them. I would love to elevate our new space with a more mature look and less hodge podge. I love to thrift and finding cheap, vintage home decor is BOMB, however, just because it's cheap and vintage doesn't mean I need it in my home. I must tell myself these things.
*everything in the above was snagged from pinterest, chairish, the rug is found here and the bed was found here.
I'm Alyssa, thanks for stopping by! A few things: I enjoy laughing, making youtube videos and thrift shopping. Currently listening to "Last Night" by The Strokes. I like my coffee black.
